A Day In The Life

Flooded

We visited the Kennebec River in Gardiner, Hallowell and Augusta today to witness the flooding firsthand. It was both amazing and devastating to see how high and wide the river had grown since yesterday. It’s forecasted to peak this afternoon near 17’ and within the next 1-2 days the water should recede to normal levels @ 11’ • It’s the worst flooding we’ve seen in 22 years • For perspective, two recent blips from April 20th and May 1 are no longer visible. Both areas are completely underwater by 4-6 feet. The Boat Landing we frequent for picnics and walking (pictured) is submerged. Ducks and cormorants have replaced dogs and humans. Visually remarkable but so very sad. The full damage won’t be known until the water recedes • The stream where we saw the osprey recently is also raging. It flooded several parking lots with several inches of water including the grocery store we frequent. It made today’s shopping rather adventurous! • Looking forward to sunshine and drier conditions on Friday!
