The Flaming Lips

I had a productive day in the studio, today, followed by a couple of drinks with Yoss in Joule, before walking across town to meet the Minx, as well as the rest of our friend Nicky's hen party, at the Apollo

With it being a hen party, I was quite happy to let them go off down the front whilst I watched The Flaming Lips from up behind the mixing desk.

They - the band, not the hen party - were performing their 2002 album 'Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots' in its entirety, followed by a greatest hits set.

Now, here's the rub: The Flaming Lips don't have that many great songs. Even 'Yoshimi...' only has two or three bangers, albeit including 'Do You Realize??', which enjoyed a spell as the Official Rock Song Of Oklahoma.

But they are a great performance band, and I suspect that most of the audience - i.e. possibly everyone except me - was totally focussed on that.

Highpoints for me were the aforementioned 'Do You Realize', as well 'It's Summertime', and 'Vaseline', but I was taken by surprise when they performed a cover of Madonna's 'Borderline', which I knew the Minx would be loving.
