St John the Baptist, Wolverley

This is the view from the top of the Campsite to Wolverley Church, quite a striking Church from this angle but very plain.

Nikolaus Pevsner describes it as an imposing if not particularly attractive church and likens it to a Victorian Town Hall, a bit harsh I feel! but he does redeem himself by saying it has a strong personality.

It was rebuilt in 1770 and has had other work in the 1800's, again Pevsner is a bit scathing! The Tower has a 9 cwt ring of 8 bells but sadly they appear not to have a local band so they are not rung regularly.
