On the roof

The only other pictures I took were endless snaps of the PowerPoints but this was a drink we had at the end of the conference on the roof of the building.  This is two of the heads of production from Italy and the US.  No I didn’t ask them but there’s lots on instagram so i don’t think they’d mind.

I slept really badly last night - too much wine and chat and a hot night but I  got to the end of Demon Copperhead at least. I started reading at 4am and finished at dawn.  643 pages!  It’s Barbara Kingsolver’s retelling of David Copperfield and it’s good and gripping but goodness it’s bleak.   She doesn’t have the humour of Dickens and fewer characters you can warm to, the McCobbs/Micawbers are nasty and exploitative rather than feckless and engaging.  But it’s a tour de force.

At the conference the sessions were a bit dry in the morning apart from two local heroes, a couple, personal and professional,  of young gay programme makers who started front of camera as comedians and have ended up powering through the industry in Spain as filmmakers and writers. They were brilliant!  In the afternoon we had a session on AI - generated imagery - which was chilling but also quite fun.

And then we repaired to the roof for drinks or coffee

A bunch of us set off for London together.  Fed up with being fed only tapas for days we snatched a three course set meal at the airport in double quick time followed by a smooth flight home.

Arrived home at midnight, the night was mild, the beech tree leaves had unfurled, a new tub of tulips had opened and there was the scent of new mown grass in the air.
