Cracked

For Abstract Thursday's "natural" theme, this is a macro shot of the cracked bark on a silver birch log in the garden. I chose this one because I think the colours look almost painted. This was achieved just by tweaking warmth, contrast and saturation. It was a grey and showery day, and we have nothing much flowering now that the daffodils and forsythia are over, but I enjoyed playing with macro shots of details (and must plant tulip bulbs in the autumn for more colour next year).

It was quite a satisfying day, with a good online yoga class in the morning and some gardening later. I virtuously washed all the glass inside the second greenhouse, swept it out and cleaned the staging before starting to move plants in. I'm trying hard (again) to avoid any repetition of the 2021 whitefly disaster by improving on my former cavalier attitude to gardening hygiene. I also potted some of the rocket seedlings into a large pot, which can stay in the greenhouse for now. It should soon be ready to start picking.

Thursday is movie night with J, and this week we enjoyed an Indian film, Last Film Show (2021) about a young village boy who becomes obsessed with cinema and the magic of catching light to create images and tell stories. We both liked it a lot - the story is well told, with a very engaging cast of young actors, and the cinematography is lovely to watch. It's currently streaming on Channel 4 (UK).
