Foz do Douro

This is the Frolic de Felgueiras, one of several lighthouses at the coastal suburb of Foz do Duoro.  We travelled there by bus. Our first stop was the Jardim do Passeio Alegre, with a splendid small art deco building housing what are claimed to be the most beautiful toilets in the world.

After wandering along the beach and enjoying the Pergola da Foz and watching lads diving into the sea from a stone jetty, we headed further north to Matosinhos.  The market is a splendid modernist building. We had lunch there in a restaurant, where a waiter took us to a nearby stall in the fish market to choose our fish (a sea bream) which we bought direct from the stallholder and then the restaurant cooked it. Superbly done and remarkably inexpensive.
