Diary of an Edinburgher

A day at the beach

Not quite as much fun as it first appears. In fact, no fun at all!

Our car had to be put into the garage for a recall of some fault on the computer settings. JR had intended doing this, and though she’s feeling better, she shouldn’t be out in this cold weather quite yet, so I took on the task, which made for quite a stressful day.

The garage is in an inaccessible area full of car yards for miles, and not much else. After trying two places, I eventually found the correct one, which was where JR assured me was the WRONG place, it was just the showrooms. No - it was also the workshop.

Once I’d deposited the car, I walked along to the beach. It’s not a pleasant walk, because it’s a dual carriageway, with big trucks speeding along. Not many people walk along there… I had a cup of tea at a beach cafe I’ve never been to before (and probably won’t go to again) then walked along the promenade, much more pleasant. I had a flat white at the caravan and watched the dogs going by.

It was going to be too long to hang about at the beach, so I took two buses home. Just as well I had my earpods and extensive playlists.

They rang to say they’d found something needing fixing. Surprise surprise! Something expensive - brake pads and brake discs were worn, apparently. You just have to trust them…

I worked out how to get back there fairly painlessly - two buses again, but one bus, I noticed, stopped at a terminus almost next to the garage. Yay! Though that wasn’t actually the final stop - that was in Porty. The driver stopped. I was the only person still on. I asked if I could go with him to the terminus. ‘No bother, hen!’

So the return walk was not as unpleasant as the morning walk. But the return drive was quite stressful in rush hour traffic, so I felt I deserved a bar of chocolate when I stopped at the shop to pick up milk.

Our Kiwi friends took our advice and went to visit the Great Tapestry of Scotland, and were very glad they did! It’s very special.
