Up fairly early to start the next part of our journey home.
Topped up with petrol and got some croissants for breakfast.
We had a nice walk along Tapton lock and the cuckoo way in Chesterfield which was just next to where we were staying. The weather was lovely so we found a bench to sit and eat our breakfast.
The journey North was ok until we hit traffic further up the A9 so we came off to find somewhere to stop for lunch.
We found a lovely place called Lotherton Hall and Estate. We hesitate when we first drove up as it was £9 each to get in and we did not know what to expect. It was worth it , the grounds were looking good with rows of daffodils and blossom coming out . There was a fascinating bird area with some very interesting and colourful birds including these flamingos. There was a night time shed where huge fruit bats could be seen flying around and other nocturnal animals running around.
An icecream hit the spot, a cup of tea in the car and then we were on our way again.
Not too much traffic now, took abit of a detour to avoid traffic as we approached Carlisle . Beautiful countryside and we found a nice spot to stop for another cup of tea watching the tiny lambs in the fields .
Reached our hotel in Dumfries just after 6pm. A countryside setting with tractors in the carpark and oystercatchers flying over head.
Had a meal in the restaurant next door , a good steak and chips :)
