There's lots of this in the grass verge beside the lane. I didn't go far today, but did manage to wash the outside of one greenhouse and empty some more pots full of grass and weeds. Barrow loads of spent compost are being used to improve the soil structure in the some of the worst parts of the vegetable garden. Saturdays tend to be slow days here; the nicest part of the day was my leisurely brunch with J. P made his delicious crumpets, combining the pasta flour recommended in the recipe with some wholemeal, and I poached eggs (from the farm up the hill) to go with them: a very good combination, especially when accompanied by our sunshiny view of the valley and Downs and some rather loud Sibelius.
