Arkle
Over in the North West of Scotland for a couple of days, with stunning weather. Left the car just north of Rhiconich, at the head of Loch Inchard, and cycled down to Loch Stack this evening, with my tent, to camp at Lone with a view to doing Foinavon tomorrow. Lot's of snipe around Lone, I heard them calling as I put up the tent and drifted off to sleep to the thrumming sound of the male's mating display: their tail feathers vibrate as they dive through the air making a distinctive "thrumming" noise.
Today's blip is Arkle from Loch Stack. Gardeners may consider gorse to be a pest in the north west, but it's bright colour is rather striking at this time of year. It also shelters stonechats and, very appropriately, yellowhammers
