London
I am in an art class of 4 students. Our tutor is Irish. Fellow students are Spanish Lady, French Guy , London Dude and I am the fourth. Our tutor decided to allow each one of us in turn to take on the role of tutor.
Firstly we had French Guy: then Spanish Lady and now we are being led by London Dude. He is a lot of fun and has inspired in us a love for his native city through the art he has told us about and by telling us about his London childhood. He sounds like Michael Caine and he laughs a lot.
He set us a task of painting an abstract scene of London using only 3 colours. This was very difficult. I chose this scene of Hammersmith Bridge and I have made the reflections almost industrial. This is in the style of Suchi Chidambaram (Pink Light).
We also had to introduce a painter of London scenes and share some of that art. I chose Melissa Scott-Miller’s ‘Islington Back Gardens, Early Spring’.
If you have Instagram, please look up ‘paintingsoflondon’ to see some wonderful art. If you scroll down you will see the 2 paintings I mentioned above. Melissa’s work and attention to detail is quite remarkable.
It is my turn next to become tutor for 2 weeks. Not only are we learning so much about art, our professor is slowly moving us in the direction of being teachers ourselves.
