Lillian Fowler (1886-1954)

Not having access to any living women to photograph for today's mono Monday challenge, I photographed a mural, painted by Brad Robson, at the local shopping centre. It is of Lillian Fowler, the first female mayor in Australia. I'm pleased that she was Mayor of Newtown, the name of the suburb I live in. She was also among the first female members of the NSW Parliament. A member of the Australian Labor Party, she sat from 1944-1950.

Among Ms Fowler's key achievements was the establishment of a number of children's playgrounds in Sydney's inner west.
