Fringe flower

This morning, together with four neighbours ,we spent a good hour  preparing a piece of land in our close to make into a Coronation  WiIdflower Meadow. The  area  became available  when  old shrubs had to be cleared to replace a fence. Eventually, we'll probably have it  replanted with permanent  shrubs and trees but, while we are deciding , it seemed to me an opportunity to enjoy a summer of colour from annual flowers. We had to clear a lot of ivy roots, then rake, before  broadcast sowing our corn poppy, corn chamomile and  cornflower seeds. The seeds had been purchased by our Parish Council for distribution in the parish for such projects. The area is not yet blip worthy but hopefully will become so over the next couple of months! 

This  afternoon, I visited  my Mother who was in a good mood. We discovered in the garden at the care home a rather striking plant, unknown  to either of us. I later identified it as a Chinese Fringeflower, or Chinese Witch Hazel (Loropetalum chinense ),and that did seem blip worthy.
