Saturday: Exotic

K and I were gifted* a voucher at Christmas for an overnight stay at a resort about 20 minutes south of Belmopan.  We’re still carless (and will be for some weeks to come) but I rented a car from work for the weekend.

We arrived at our resort location and had a nice lunch.

Three hours later we were home again.  

They’d forgotten our booking so scrambled to get our room ready.  It all felt a bit churlish.  I had email confirmation but, despite that, they scrabbled around a bit and said ‘ok, you can stay’………

 By the time our room was ready, we’d walked the length and breadth of the place.  It was incredibly hot (36 degrees, high humidity and no breeze) and their outdoor pool was nothing more than an oversized paddling pool.  Added to that, it was covered and not accessible.  

The rooms were also very basic.  We just kept thinking of our nice large pool at home and lovely air conditioning.  There wasn’t really anything there that provided for a more exciting or different experience than we’d get at home so we decided to go back home to Barney and the pool.

But they did have this exotic tree. And we’ve had an excellent evening.

*No money was lost in this escapade.  The friends who gave us the voucher had also received it as a freebie.
