Royal Liverpool Philharmonic
What a treat this evening! Kendal was privileged to host the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic orchestra for a wonderful final concert in the Lakeland Sinfonia series.
A Weber overture was followed by my favourite violin concerto, the Sibelius, played by Esther Hoppe. It must be the most difficult of pieces but was really beautifully played on Esther’s Stradivarius. She told us that this instrument was made in 1722 so is 300 years old! She says it is quite tricky to play a Strad as they don’t sound great if played in a modern way, they have to be allowed to make their own sound. This one certainly did! It’s so amazing to actually see the music being played, and we had front row seats for this performance so saw everything close up!
The final piece was Dvorak From the New World, conducted beautifully by Philippe Bach with some delightful woodwind sections.
All very memorable.
