Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Jan came over for a coffee and a tour of the house tricky bits - coffee machine, television, gas fire etc. But really, the tricky bit is Archie, and not worrying too much about his sound phobias and skulking in dark corners.

Elizabeth came to take the boy out, then we decided to go into town. I need a new hat. Yes, I do have hats, but I’ve washed both my regular ones recently, as they were getting too big, and now they’re too small. Funny, that.

So we set off into town, perhaps going down the Royal Mile to a favourite, but infrequent, shop. But we diverted down Victoria Street - it was sunny and mobbed. There are several wee restaurants down that way, and we popped into one on the off chance of a table. Yes!

And a very nice meal was had, music not at all intrusive. When we came out, there was a huge queue down the street. What was going on? It was yet another Harry Potter spinoff, this time a ‘Museum’… The other huge queue was for ‘OINK’ the hog roast with a whole roasted pig lying half eaten in the window. I can’t look at it. (But it does smell nice).

Opposite this was a shop I’ve never been in, and more amazing, JR has never been in. And it was GREAT. The soundtrack was 60s/70s music, with the two ladies singing along.

And what a lot of nice clothes they had. Even I got quite enthused and tried on a couple of things. JR was heartbroken, as they didn’t have any ‘petite’ sizes.

Anyway, a few items were purchased. I felt a bit guilty and admitted that we were going on a cruise. ‘Thought so’ said one assistant. ‘Which company?’ ‘Thought so too!’ when I told her. She’d been with them on a cruise and once you try them, she agreed, you can’t look at any others.

I came home after that splurge, but JR went on into town - there was still plenty of day left. She did actually make it down to the other favourite shop and saw lots of lovely things, but again - no ‘petite’ sizes.

I caught the Women’s Six Nations rugby matches.
