Traffic Jam
“Normal is not something to aspire to, it’s something to get away from.”
Jodie Foster
It’s been a while (too long) since I made my last visit to relatives in the Hereford countryside, so today K1 came with me to rectify that. The journey via Hereford is often congested around the city so I usually opt for ‘the pretty route’, via Talgarth and Glasbury. Rarely need an excuse to travel this way as it’s a route I travelled many times with Dad on the family history trail. The landscape is often dramatic too in squally weather like today, with shafts of sunlight breaking through black clouds to light up the Black Mountains overlooking Hay. It doesn’t disappoint today either, and I took my time. Unexpected surprise when we arrived; R had cooked a roast for us so we enjoyed a relaxed home cooked meal while catching up on family gossip with her and C for a few hours. We took the same route back but as if to prove that we can’t avoid the traffic congestion we hit this traffic jam after a few miles. Somehow it didn’t seem such a problem waiting for the milling flock to make their way down the road and into new pastures, certainly ‘prettier’ than sitting in a queue of cars on the bridge through the city.
