The change in the weather
The wind picked up overnight. The hut felt like it was going to lift up off the ridge at one point but fortunately it is well tied down to the rock with cables.
When it didn't look too bad we geared up and soldiered out into the wind and headed up across the glacier to the nearest peak, the Mitterer Barenkopf (3357m). The wind kept up with periodic snow flurries and we got to the peak ridge but elected to turn around due to the strong wind gusts. It was just as well as the next flurry developed into a snowstorm and total whiteout. Our guide Andreas felt the way back to the hut which was a welcome escape from the continuing deluge. Wolfgang and his excellent crew kept us well fed and watered while the world outside got whiter. The other guests got most of the way up to the hut, but find it so turned back.
Good job we brought the snowshoes.
