Victorian Day

Al has been learning about the Victorians, and to
end the topic and the term, they were invited to dress as Victorian children for the day.

Al was practising his 'Victorian walk' before school. This, apparently, means walking calmly (not his natural choice) with hands clasped behind the back, rather like Prince Charles inspecting a factory. Girls, he told me, held their hands at the front. This, along with getting the cane and having to stand when a teacher enters to room seem to be the three things that have made the greatest impression on him about Victorian childhood. Seeing as the last two were very much in evidence in my own school days, it's left me feeling pretty ancient.
