Day Trip!
Elizabeth came to take Archie out today, having been away on holiday last week. She came earlier than usual, 11am, and so we decided to make the most of this, and the sunny day, to go for a wee drive, sans chien. And, in case we got stuck in traffic, she had the key and could pop him into the house to await our arrival with his bone. Perfect. And in fact we were only minutes after his arrival.
Where to go? The coast, while a lovely drive, would be too cold. Despite the weak sunshine, there was a chilly easterly breeze. So we went south, to the Borders.
First stop, The Flat Cat gallery and cafe. We’ve been going there for many years - it’s always worth a stop. Art, crafty gifts, coffee, cake… it was mobbed, as usual.
We then decided to go and see Scott’s View. We’ve seen it many times before, but it’s always worth a detour. Also worth a detour was the huge statue of William Wallace.
After calling in at Dryburgh Abbey we arrived at the highlight of the afternoon: Main Street Books in St Boswells. A wee village, but this is the most wonderful shop - cafe, deli, bookshop. It has regular events and guest speakers. And the cake choice is epic.
The roads weren’t busy at all, but I suspect the coast road would have been. We got home shortly after Elizabeth had delivered Archie. Of course, it would be nice just to drive off on a trip with him, but he still, after nine years, gets car sick. I don’t think he’s ever going to ‘grow out of it’ as we were always told.
Official emails regarding CRUISE arrangements have arrived!! We have to let them know when we want transported to the airport in a limousine. And collected from Glasgow airport on the way home.
