Iceland - Day 3 - Gluggavedur

Up to find the rain already underway, and was not due to stop... Breakfast and loaded up and headed south for Route 1. First stop was the Lava Centre, where there is a very well organised exhibition, with interactive displays. Had a hot chocolate in the guides room while the students enjoyed the film presentation. Headed for Seljalandsfoss next - frozen paths meant we were unable to get as close as usual. Rain and winds were building. We made our way slowly to Skogafoss which was in full force, but the winds were gusting over 60 mph so had to turn back. This meant missing out on walking to the glacier, but the black sand beach was closed due to dangerous conditions. As we headed back west, after a trip to see amazing waves at Landeyahofn, the sun came out briefly with some rainbows, including this one in front of Hekla and black sandur and lava. Headed for Hveragerdi, the hot-springs town for shops, coffee and an exhibition with an earthquake simulator. Dried out and headed home for evening meal and preparing for the following day.

Gluggavedur is an Icelandic word meaning 'window weather' - looks good through the window but not good to be out in...
