Gunnerside and Reeth

Our last walk and pub adventure, which was set in Keswick, was compromised by the weather, resulting in us only doing the pub and meal part (although I have no major complaint about that!).

Today, though, the weather looked no worse than dubious, and Chris, Steve, and I met at Gunnerside at ten-thirty for our day's walk. Well, actually I was slightly late but we still set off in good time, following the route Chris had planned, heading west along the northern side of the River Swale.

There was indeed a little light rain, but that aside it was pleasant walking weather and the going was easy until we stopped for lunch, and crossed the river to come back. At that point, the terrain was a little more steep and challenging, and we were back at the cars by five o'clock, having done a good twelve miles. 

And in the evening we drove over to Reeth, which had an exposed, almost Alaskan vibe to it, where we tried the three pubs - all very nice - and then had our evening meal back at the pub where we were staying. Hats off to Chris's organisational skills, the weather, and the Yorkshire Dales for a fab day out!
