Doune Castle

We had Ben today with Laura starting her new job she doesn’t get as many school holidays.

We decided to make use of our Historic Scotland membership and went for a visit to Doune Castle which is now opened after maintenance work. There is still work going on but not affecting visiting it. Doune castle has been used in many film and tv series. Monty Python and the Holy Grail was filmed mostly in one of the big rooms. game of thrones, outlander, Outlaw King etc etc…..

Started speaking to an American couple who were on a tour of Scotland , they were from New York originally but now lived in South Carolina near the air base. When Ben told her he had been in New York and told her what places he visited she thanked him for visiting the 9/11 memorial. It was a nice chat with them both. They were heading to Edinburg next via Stirling Castle!!

messaged Wee G who lives In Dunblane that I was going to Doune so she drove to meet us and we had a walk down by the river then in to Doune to the Buttercup Cafe and had a lovely lunch sitting outside in their garden. We had the coffee and cake indoor as it started to get cold out of the sun.

Home around 4:30 and dropped Ben off at his house and we had a walk up the golf course to make the most of the nice day.

Toast and tea later as still full and an episode of 1923. Accents in films/series. Jerome Flynn has the worst Scottish accent. I wanted him to be shot in the fight between the sheep and the cattle farmers just so I didnt have to cringe . Helen Mirren as bad with her Supposed to be Irish and the annoying girlfriend of Spencer Dutton trying to be posh English but failing with her American accent coming through. Please just hire someone from that country instead!

Anyway, I am enjoying it but hoping Jerome is gone soon.
