Yet another early start, best “bib & tucker” with medals for the St Nazaire Raid commemoration.
Known as the “Greatest Raid” it is remembered every year here in Falmouth. The morning comes in two parts, the smaller commemoration that I prefer takes place at the graves of three of the Charioteers as they are known. Two having died during the raid have Commonwealth War Grave headstones, shown in todays photos, the third lived to a ripe old age and has his headstone in the newer part of the ceremony.
The more formal gathering of the ‘great & good’ takes place later in the morning at the revamped memorial on Prince of Wales Pier in the town.
A single tot of rum to go with a few bits from the buffet fortified me before heading home for my walk with Paddy, home, dinner into the oven to cook whilst I watched the Red Roses v Italy.
A bit one sided but enjoyable.
Dinner with Mrs S and Sam, Mrs S is well on the road to recovery and excited at the prospect of a school training day tomorrow and the coming weeks training in preparation for her new start.
