Palm Sunday

We enjoyed a wonderful meaningful service at church this morning celebrating Palm Sunday and looking ahead to Holy Week. The service started in a fairly traditional way, remembering Jesus’ jubilant entry into Jerusalem, with people waving palms, and singing Hosanna to the Son of David. But as the service progressed, we began to look forward to the events of Good Friday. We always celebrate Communion on the first Sunday of the month, and with that, recalling the Last Supper, we segued into the darker events of Holy Week, with a beautiful liturgical dance to the song Via Dolorosa, performed by three young girls, one of whom is the daughter of our assistant pastor. Then as our soprano choral scholar Nicolette sang an excerpt from Bach’s St John Passion, the altar guild ladies and assistants cleared all the items from the altar, except for the small cross, which was draped in a black cloth. The purple cloth on the large cross was removed and replaced with a black cloth, and the congregation left the sanctuary in silence. After the service, we had our last class from our Lenten study on the Gospel of John, using Adam Hamilton’s book.
It had been a chilly dull start to the day, but by the time we came out of church, the clouds had given way to some sunshine, and after lunch, we went out to enjoy the beautiful afternoon at Rowe Woods, continuing our worship of God in his creation - I’ve added a collage of our walk in extras.
