Siopa heddiw, a chrwydro am gyfnod byr ar dir eglwys y Sant Mair.  Roeddwn i'n meddwl bod y brigyn hwn yn edrych fel ysbryd y goeden yn dawnsio.

Ces i sgwrsio neis iawn gydag Alwen yn ‘Iechyd Da’. Roeddwn i'n gofyn iddi hi am bwysigrwydd y farddoniaeth yn ddiwylliant Cymry Cymraeg. Gwnaeth hi'n cadarnhau fy amheuaeth ei bod hi'n bwysig iawn, yn fwy nag yn Saesneg lle mae'n ymddangos allan o ffasiwn.

Yn ddiwylliant Cymru mae'r plant yn dysgu barddoniaeth (darllen ac ysgrifennu) fael rhan o ddysgu'r iaith, ac wrth gwrs mae gystadleuaeth barddoniaeth enwog fel rhan o bob eisteddfod.

Mewn rhai o ffyrdd mae barddoniaeth yn yr iaith yn barod - yn ei sŵn ac yn ei rhythmau. felly nid yw'n syndod ei fod yn agwedd bwerus o'r diwylliant.

Shopping today, and wandering for a short time in the grounds of Saint Mary's church. I thought this twig looked like a dancing tree ghost.

I had a very nice chat with Alwen at 'Iechyd Da'. I was asking her about the importance of poetry in Welsh-speaking Welsh culture. She confirmed my suspicion that it is very important, more so than in English where it seems out of fashion.

In Welsh culture the children learn poetry (reading and writing) as part of learning the language, and of course there is a famous poetry competition as part of every eisteddfod.

In some ways there is already poetry in the language - in its sound and rhythms. so it is not surprising that it is a powerful aspect of the culture.

(The surprise is that we had this conversation in Welsh and I understood most of it.)
