Living my dream

By Mima

Sunshine day!

As you can see from the light on sweetpeas and nasturtiums, the sun is out again. And the cold southerly wind has disappeared. We are back to ‘normal’ autumn conditions.

I celebrated by taking the sledge hammer to one of the several wooden fences on the property. In a previous life Chez Mima was divided into four large areas by beautifully constructed fences. They are pretty much redundant as dividers of the land these days, but the long planks of good quality wood make excellent planter boxes and raised bed edges. I remove them as needed.

Once the nails were removed, I marked out the lengths I’ll cut tomorrow. Then the 2 x 4m x 200mm x 10mm planks I requisitioned today will become the top layer of the walls of the long raised bed into which I shall plant the tea bushes in front of the new cabin. I already have the lower half in place.

The morning started gloomy, so I bottled peaches. I also roasted a deep tray of tomatoes, garlic, onion and basil ready to make another batch of ketchup.

Bean was outside in a flash as soon as the sun returned and she’s been baking more or less ever since. No blankets required.
