The second half of life..

Stormy skies

It was a horror night last night - wild winds that made things rattle in the van that I've never heard rattle!  Rain that lashed so hard I thought at times it may have been hail.  Thank goodness for an electric blanket (thanks to the updated electrics) and a second duvet otherwise I may have had a very, very cold night.  Woke this morning to find the wind still howling, but rather less rain, though looking at these clouds you can see there was still plenty to come.
Another pootling day - set off mid-morning towards Cheviot then turned left towards Gore Bay.  As far as I can see this may be the last campground/camping site along this stretch of coast before it hits the rather more populated/less wild & woolly main drag into Christchurch.  There's plenty of coast left but it seems to be farm land with limited or no access.  So tonight, it's Gore Bay campground.  A classic kiwi campground meaning things are a bit more personal and friendly, a bit older, a bit more used, a bit less focused on appearance and a bit more focused on function.  A hand-written sign informs campers that showers are set to a timer and are just 4 minutes long and 30 seconds before time is up the shower will be interrupted then it will stop completely and reset.  Also, if there's no-one in the office select a park and the camp proprietor will call round and collect your fees this evening.  No internet connection - not even a satellite connection, though that has more to do with the trees and the hills than with the lack of any tower.  Back to basics and it feels goooood!
