and through the wire...

Ooh, What A Day!

An actual night's sleep was had... and we were off to Geisir to see where geysers were invented, ok, named after. And just like the user manual said, it spouted every 8 mins or so, impressive. There were lots here, only one spouted, the rest were steaming.

On our way to the 2nd visit of the day, we stopped to see some Icelandic horses where the farmer was so fed up of people stopping to feed them bad food, they now have horse candy to buy for them... candy being something good for them. Today we saw loads of herds of horses all just kept wild, probably for export. They are tough beasts given the weather they were putting up with today. They were cute and enjoyed being fed food that the farmer would have given them anyway, but paid for by us.

Just up the road to Gullfoss, and if I ever see a more impressive waterfall than this, well, I will eat my cotton socks, and we plan to see lots of waterfalls in the next week. Over 3 levels and so many ways the water fell down, or got frozen, so much to see.

And off we headed for The Lava Centre, an exhibition all about er... oh well, life as we know it. Despite Iceland being formed by volcanic activity, 3 tectonic plates converging etc, I was surprised to learn there have been 48 earthquakes here in the last 48 hours! We'd been here 24 hours and hadn't felt a thing, although I did say I slept well last night. It was a great exhibition.

It's all go here, down the road to Seljalandsfoss were there are about 5 waterfalls in a row up to Gljufrabui, the secret waterfall, ssshhh.

And to cap it off, on the road to Skógafoss which was big and sort of in a semi circle amphitheatre. It would have been my favourite so far, had we not been to Gullfoss. A walk up the steps to see it from the top.

Anyways, a really great day, lots done and experienced... and the photos added to the extras are:

1. Geysir
2. Icelandic Horsies
3. Gullfoss
4. Skógafoss
