We’re down in Leyton for a few days and popped in to the William Morris Gallery. What a treat! He is described as;
William Morris (24 March 1834 – 3 October 1896) was a British textile designer, poet, artist, fantasy writer, architectural conservationist, printer, translator and socialist activist associated with the British Arts and Crafts Movement. He was a major contributor to the revival of traditional British textile arts and methods of production. His literary contributions helped to establish the modern fantasy genre, while he helped win acceptance of socialism in Great Britain.
I do not want art for a few any more than education for a few, or freedom for a few.
There is no square mile of earth’s inhabitable surface that is not beautiful in it’s own way, if we men will only abstain from wilfully destroying that beauty.
No man is good enough to be another's master.
