Rainy Sunset Over Kassel

Tuesday was all about the travelling.

It started well with my taxi being in front ot the house at the chosen time..  And then we tried to cross the city on a day where there was no public transport.

Every idiot - and we don't have a shortage - was in a car.

I think this was typified by an incident on the Dotzheimer Strasse.  It was predictably choked with traffic - it's one of the main roads into Wiesbaden city centre.  People were doing that ignoring traffic lights thing.  The red light is just the start of a negotiation.  It all got too much for a driver behind my taxi who just drove on to the pavement and off he went down the pavement.  Because that's what they teach you when you're learning to drive "Now remember, if things are not going your way - ignore all the rules and do what you want because you are the best driver ever."  It's only rule that a lot of drivers here have remembered.

It got to work in the end (should take 30 minutes but with Idiot Tax it took an hour).  And when I got there I discovered the chap who was picking up the hire car was stuck in a traffic jam.  My 2 other colleagues were there and so we waited.

Colleague with massive car arrived.  And it was an electric car.  So we all piled in and set off for glorious North Hessen.  It took me an hour to get across Wiesbaden.  And 2 and half hours to get from Wiesbaden to Kassel.

More about the conference tomorrow.
