Shrewsbury School

Today's the day ............................. to be 'Islanded in Severn Stream'

That was the way that A E Housman wrote about Shrewsbury - and it describes perfectly the way that the town is surrounded on three sides by a loop of the meandering River Severn.

This loop still defines the town centre today with its ancient and intricate street pattern. A maze of narrow passages criss-cross the town between the main streets and everywhere there are magnificent black and white houses of the 16th century and earlier.

As much a part of Shrewsbury as its historic buildings - are its flowers. On both sides of the river there are large areas of parkland and gardens for common use. This is the view across the river to the famous Shrewsbury School.

You would need much longer than we had to do justice to this lovely town and explore it properly. I'm sure we'll return .................

PS This one is for my old friend Bkeeper, for whom I'm sure it will bring back lots of memories!
