Hills & Buxton
First full day of our holiday today. We had a walk out near some lovely craggy hills (first extra) this morning, ending at the Quiet Woman pub, which seems to have closed down during early covid. We still liked the sign.
From there we drove into Buxton and visited Poole's Cavern for a short walk underground. They had UV lighting at one point (second extra) to enhance the stalagmites. In this area of the cave their stalagmites are growing at 1cm a year due to some industrial waste been left above ground many years ago. They were even beginning to form on the path and railings.
From there we walked into Buxton and had a wander around the Pavilion Gardens. Tim played here with a brass band at a competition in 1987, that was quite some time ago now!
The last extra is a panorama of the crescent in the centre of Buxton.
A good day, and a good walk.
