Paris 4
Today was a bit of a grey, drizzly one, so we indulged in a tea and raison whirl for breakfast in our local Boulanger. We then made our way up to Montmartre and went in to Sacre Coeur and had a walk in the rain around the little cobbled roads around the side. I normally find this area quite annoying with people and 'artists' hassling you for a badly drawn portrait, but today wasn't too bad. Maybe the rain helped! We had a crepe for lunch and then went to the Louvre. I studied the history around this immense gallery during my MA and was wracking my brain for facts as we walked around. It's kind of ridiculous how huge it is. Of course we went to see Venus de Milo and the Mona Lisa. It's so funny watching people crowding round the painting; jostling to get to the front, taking a quick snap and then walking off! I wonder how many people take a few moments to actually look at it with their eyes- rather than through a camera screen. It didn't take long before we couldn't take any more in, so we made our way out and walked through the gardens, deciding to get a Rickshaw from the Obelisk back to Notre Dame, which was pretty damn good. We had a final holiday treat back at the Patisserie with some amazing cakes, and rounded off our holiday with pizza, wine and a stunning view of the Eiffel Tower in the sunset.
