I have a lilac

I have a "bloomerang" purple lilac which means it should bloom in May and then again in July. I think she'll be very happy in that corner of the deck and we can see her from the kitchen window. She already has tiny little leaves. 

The big news for today is that it is Saint Patrick's Day!

Oh yes, there is an arrest warrant out for Putin! What does this mean? It means the International Criminal Court knows that it can't do much, but is so horrified that it will do what it can esp as the situation is ongoing. The ICC says that Putin has individual, criminal responsibility for the abduction and taking of Ukrainian children. They can't try him in absentia but it is a massive rebuke. It is rare for the ICC to publish arrest warrants, it is a public shaming. It limits where he will travel to, lest he be arrested. It means fewer world leaders will be photographed shaking his hand. 

The ICC also charged Maria Lvova-Belova, Russia's commissioner for children's rights. She ..... she ..... well she has 23 children including a Ukrainian boy taken from Mariupol. She has spoken openly about trying to make him love Russia. 


Russia has been very open about the taking of children and putting them up for adoption, making it a propaganda thing. They've adopted children who are orphans and those who have Ukrainian families. Ukrainians have managed to get 304 of them back. 


Turkey announced it will move forward with ratifying Finland's application to join NATO. Now Finland needs to bribe Hungary. 


Slovakia said it will send 13 MiG jet fighters to Ukraine, beating Poland's current gift of four.
