Ullswater from the path to Birkhouse Moor
The weather gods relinquished their tight grip a fraction today. We still had a little showery rain and flurry of hailstones but by and large it was a benign day compared to the rest of the week.
We took full opportunity of this window in the weather to drive to Glenridding for an ascent of Birkhouse Moor and Catstyecam, with Jane and Adam. These were both new Wainwrights for us. Good views all around for most of the walk including the final destination of Catstycam, the 10th highest peak in the Lake District.
Good views until we made the final summit which at that time was shrouded in cloud as was Helvellyn, Red Tarn, Striding and Swirrel edges.
Only a few people about, I expect it may be different tomorrow. A fine descent down an easy path made a great end to the walk. As did the customary post walk pint at the White Horse Inn at Scales.
Jane and Adam came to our place for dinner this evening. Although our week in the apartment is over we’re staying on with them for a couple of nights which will be a nice extension to the trip. No more fells though!
