Monklands Canal, what’s left, and a snowball.

A fascinating walk with Glasgow Ramblers more or less following the Monklands Canal in Coatbridge. The canal has been closed to water traffic for ever and now only 3 miles of the original length remains above ground. A few hundred metres up stream I came across a large badger sett with at least 8 entrances, almost certainly active, however no time to search for the definitive badger hair.
Another interesting find was the sculpture representing the famous Lees Chocolate Snowballs, so irresistibly delicious and full of sugary rubbish. Sadly the snowball maker was taken over over by the Finsbury Food Group conglomerate just a few weeks ago.
We finished up at the Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life, no snowballs in the café so we had to make do with a Tunnock’s Teacake based close by in Uddingston.
