... are in the grass and coping well with the cold.
snake's head fritillary, snake's head, chess flower, frog-cup, guinea-hen flower, guinea flower, leper lily (because its shape resembled the bell once carried by lepers), Lazarus bell, chequered lily, chequered daffodil, drooping tulip ... call it what you will, it is always a pleasure to see emerging.
And did you know it's the county flower of Oxfordshire - they still grow in abundance Iffley Meadows - and is the official flower of Uppland in Sweden, also very popular in Croatia. I have pale pink varieties and these dark purple one. I love them.
