Four women writers

Last night it was the announcement of the eagerly awaited (by many of us readers) Women’s Prize for Fiction Longlist and, although there were as usual many surprises, these four books are on the list and happen to be the four that I have copies of, have read and have really enjoyed. (Gordon is currently reading Demon Copperhead and liking it a lot)

So I am today, on International Women’s Day, celebrating four of the most talented female writers of the present moment.

These books look formidable . . . and they possibly are! However they are four of the most excellent books I have ever read and certainly deserve to be on this list. I suspect that the winner will be one of these. They are all quite long and take some commitment, but they are all well worth the time given to them.

The rest of the Longlist are books that most people have not even heard of, which is why it is so exciting - finding new authors, new books. I have ordered a few and will see how I get on with reading through the list. The judging panel feel that there is a book for everyone on the list - if you want to know more about any of the books have look at the Women’s Prize website.
