5am start today...

...to get two guests from Adelaide back to Tours station in time for their transfer to Charles de Gaulle and onward flight to Athens. At least they are heading somewhere warmer! On my return took this blip of La Grande Vignolle - usually hard to stop on this road but 7am on a bank holiday Monday there was no traffic so managed to pullover. Owned by Domaine Filliatreau who makes beautiful single varietal Cabernet Francs, the vineyard in front of the troglodytic seigneurial is laid out in the logo of the Monuments of France. Hard to tell from this angle but more apparent when you climb the steep hill and look down on it. The demure is cut into the rocky hillside and the vineyards are up top rolling out into Saumur Champigny and up off the Loire river.
