Cruising on Halong Bay

When we booked this holiday 2 years ago - it was cancelled last year due to Covid -  we didn’t include a visit to Halong Bay in our itinerary. Since then we have chatted to lots of people and began to think it was a mistake to miss it out as we are unlikely to make this journey again. 

I asked our guide on the first day if he could fix something up for us and with only 2 day’s notice it was no trouble and so today we did it as a day trip from Hanoi. It was quite a long drive but it was interesting having things pointed out by the guide and we were given a boat to ourselves - I thought it was to be a little junk but turned out to be one that could take 40 people ! A lovely lunch was served up - it is obvious they are just so glad to have tourists back after what has been a horrendous time due to Covid. No government supported schemes like the UK had. 

Altogether a great day - being driven through the city on our way back as everyone returned from a Sunday outing was quite an experience - there is no way I would venture out in a car in that chaos !
