Steaming Day
After all the hot weather today was cold and very wet. Always draughty in the ticket office so I had three layers on all day. An interesting day only 111 tickets sold although many of them rode the line several times
The interesting thing about today was where everyone came from. Out of that 111 Four came from the USA and from 3 different States, two lots from England, One lot from China one lot from Australia two lots from Tauranga and Palmerston North, These are places in the North Island of NZ and two lots from Nelson which is the top of the South Island of NZ one lot from Invercargill which is from the deep south. I always find it interesting if we are not too busy chatting to the overseas visitors
Only shot out once to take a pic and not a good one at that. Every time you can be working with a totally different set of men. Like today I had never worked with the station master that was on today as he is usually driving the train. He is a highly trained engineer who because he has such a great love of trains comes down from Christchurch as a volunteer which is two hours drive north of here. The station master is in charge of the whole team on the day . So all told a satisfying day doing something different that I enjoy
Todays station master also gives his time training new drivers and firemen, He is licensed to observe them and pass them for their tickets. What a gem to have on board as a volunteer
