Veg veg glorious veg

We did a couple of hours at the allotment this afternoon - along with another couple who have the (beautifully tended and dug, unlike ours!) plot next to ours the fencing is pretty much done other than a few bits where the joins need to be strengthened (but we ran out of screws to finish the job). I planted out some garlic, I think I left it too late as the cloves did mostly look past their best, but if I can get a few bulbs out of it I'll be happy for this year - it's all a learning experience. We also dug over a bit more of the plot - I'm pleased as it's now looking like it's more than half done (which it has been for a while, but the bit that still needs doing looks noticeably smaller now to my eye).

I thought rather than bore you with yet another photo of dug up earth (they don't bore me but that is because I am really appreciating the progress and the hard work it represents) I'd instead show you some of what will hopefully be transplanted to the allotment in the coming month or two. We have this little plastic greenhouse thing in the back court, it was only a cheap and cheerful thing from Lidl but the stuff we put in it seems to thrive so it was definitely a good buy! From back to front there are tomatoes (they'll stay at home), dwarf beans, courgettes, brussels, and a couple of quinoa plants in the bottom right hand corner of the tray. The newly planted pots are more beans (4 different varieties - the big pot has the same variety that has already started growing here, and the three little pots has a few of the beans that didn't work last month - ever the optimist). After taking this I also planted some spinach beet seeds out in a tray, so hopefully something will come of those too.

I'm really enjoying this growing and planting lark. I'll really enjoy the eating bit of it too!
