Silloth on Solway

Kathleen Ferrier was ( and still is ) one of the world’s great singers, with a fabulous contralto voice. She lived in Silloth when she was married. Her husband was the local Nat West bank manager. She became internationally famous and eventually moved to London.

Sadly she died far too young, aged 41.

Ask Alexa to play Blow the Wind Southerly…then What is life without Thee, by Kathleen Ferrier…

Regular blippers will realise that I have been to the dentist today ( in Silloth ) to get a crown on one of my front teeth fitted. The dentist did an excellent job!

Silloth is a Victorian seaside resort, laid out on a grid system. Many of it’s streets have cobbled stones. Sadly the railway from Carlisle to Silloth closed in 1964.

Silloth’s links golf course is rated one of the best 100 in the world!

The Romans were here, too…

And Hadrian’s Cycleway ( National Route 72 ) hugs the Solway coast between Maryport and Silloth.
