A sampler made in 1829

Today I went to the Museum of Richmond for a talk and workshop led by the Education Officer there. It was all about samplers made a long time ago..1829. She had a book which has samples of many types of stitches for embroidery and also for making garments The extra shows a miniature shirt which the girls would then have used as a pattern for making a full size one. The stitches were incredibly small. The museum has background information on this sampler book, the girls will have done it while at school in Richmond.
We were then given a kit to make our own sampler which we started and then have brought home to continue making, it will take ages!

They hold the sessions on Wednesdays and Saturdays once a month..it’s called Coffee and Crafting  and is always based on an item from the Museum. This is the second I have attended and I hope to go to more.

I went on the bus as still can not drive and could legitimately sit in the ‘disabled’ seats! Two buses on the way back as we have a big diversion due to a new cycle lane being made from Teddington to Twickenham which is taking about three months to complete, and many people think it is unnecessary as when you get to the end of the cycle lane you will be in busy two lane traffic again!
