Wow!

Frampton Marsh is a conservation success story - fifteen years ago it was an area of farmland next to the Wash. Now this RSPB reserve is home to huge flocks of birds during the winter - with an estimated 7500 Lapwing, 4000 Golden Plover and 4000 Wigeon there today.  Most of the time they were sitting peacefully on the marsh, but every time a Peregrine or Marsh Harrier flew over, the Golden Plover and Lapwing  would all take to the air - forming a plovercane. At this point we were almost in the middle of one - just breathtaking!

As well as the sheer numbers of birds, there was plenty of other interest. At one point, while looking out of the 360 hide, we could see Pintail, Goldeneye, Avocet, Ringed Plover, Ruff and many of the more numerous wintering birds. And although it was overcast, the rain held off, meaning that all the members of the Peterborough Local Group that visited had a really good time. 

We finished with a visit to the  newly opened cafe - highly recommended - especially the carrot cake!
