A difficult and chilly morning. Fortunately I can still heat the water in my tank with an immersion heater so, after a while, I had a bath and was able to wash my hair. As soon as it was nine o'clock, I phoned Kevin the electrician and left a message. I knew he would help if he could but he is always very busy. About an hour later he phoned back and said he would come today but he didn't know when. I told him I would be here and heaved a sigh of relief. Just after lunch he turned up and after a bit of teasing sorted the whole thing out. Everything working again and a new socket fitted. He's fitted some newer kind of fuse and is coming back to replace the rest of the old ones. I immediately turned on the central heating and the gas fire and decided to have a day of luxurious warmth. Didn't go out at all. Otto was blowing a hooley all morning so I photographed the birds with their feathers all awry, Did exercises, checked my bank account and re-read The French Lieutenant's Woman. It's as if I've never read it at all.
