Panthers prowling
First I must apologise for the deliberate....or not...mistake on yesterday’s quiz.
The place was Guiseley not Yeadon, although they are next to one another. My fault for copying the question from a quiz sheet. I should have known better!
However you all knew it was Harry Ramsden’s Fish and Chip Shop.
So will start with today’s Yorkshire quiz question. No. 16.
Where was Charlotte Brontë born?
Today’s blip is a photo of part of an information board I pass many times when parking at Home Bargains, Cleckheaton. ( The full board is on as an extra)
It was created by Spen Valley Civic Society and was funded entirely by the Panther Owners Club and individual donations by its members.
World famous motorcycles were produced on this spot in Cleckheaton for over 60 years.
During WW1 the company supplied thousands of motorcycles, and motorcycles and side cars to the War Office and Britain’s allies.
Like a lot of industry during the war they depended heavily on female labour.
The 1st “ Panther” model was produced in 1923.
The last motorcycle rolled off the production line in 1966.
However the story carries on. Hundreds of enthusiasts in every continent except Antarctica own thousands of Panther motorcycles.
Loved and looked after and many still ridden today.
We watched three good programmes on TV yesterday......for once!
The Piano, On Chanel 4.
Rick Stein’s Cornwall. BBC2.
We are quite surprised how good it is. Much better than many programmes about Cornwall. Learnt interesting facts about Charles Dickens visit to Cornwall.
Secret Life of the Forest. Channel 5.
All about Dalby, Cropton, and Langdale forests in North Yorkshire.
