Some Days

More Stale Eggs

Four new baby greylag geese appeared on the pond with their proud parents, this beautiful bright morning.

Big babies

Added to the five (was six) we already have, makes for some very aggressive mummy and daddy greylag geese.

It is lovely to see the geese, but they are not without their problems. There is quite a tribe of geese, probably including last year's young and other non breeding adults. These act as early warning sentries, honking as people approach, at which the families slide into the water out of harm's way.

At night they like to nibble the grass on the nearby seventh green and approach. This would not be a problem except for the fact that their poo is about the same size as that of a small dog. Everywhere. Tons.

But that is a greenkeeper problem, not a gardener problem.

For now!

Following yesterday's duckblip I remembered to take in our big bag of chicken food from when we had hens. The ducks new what to do straight away and were almost dancing as they picked up the grains and pellets from the grass. No more white bread, problem solved!
