Kirklees Concert Season
Opera North's orchestra tonight performed a varied programme - "The Day Dawn" a highly descriptive piece about a winter's day in Shetland by Sally Beamish; the "minute masterpiece" - "Bergamasca" by Peter Longworth, a world premiere I believe; Carl Nielsen's innovative symphony no.2 - "The Four Temperaments" (being The Choleric, The Phlegmatic, the Melancholic and the Sanguine) and Elgar's Violin Concerto - the longest in the standard repertoire, with the US born soloist Elena Urioste, who was magnificent.
